How OpenTHC is Helping Small Cannabis Businesses Thrive

At OpenTHC, we provide cannabis tracking and reporting solutions for businesses of all sizes and structures. We are a small business, and much of our client base is, too. Part of out engineering and product development philosophy prioritizes empowering these small participants.

We excel at delivering direct client support and troubleshooting. But, these are minimums that most operators have come to expect. Our secret sauce is building good business partnerships, and how we empower our partners to connect with one another.

"Washington Bud Company has relied on OpenTHC since our beginning to provide workable integration solutions to the ever shifting traceability system. They are always responsive to our needs, answers the phone right away, and comes up with solutions to ease our traceability burdens."

-Shawn DaNae Wagonseller, Washington Bud Company

Pricing for our compliance support services varies depending on need. OpenTHC offers free options through Docker, and our GitHub repositories. Our most basic plan covers training and software needs for smaller operators with limited cannabis production. While almost all cannabis companies count as small businesses, OpenTHC has medium and large plans which offer features suitable for larger operators.

As more rural communities gain stronger internet access, OpenTHC founder David Busby feels the company's services have only become more relevant. He argues that most companies want “something that works” for traceability, and someone they can contact if it doesn’t work. Busby envisions helping companies with “one-off support requests,” billing clients for time worked. Or contracting for training and deployment of the OpenTHC platform on a client's infrastructure.

We have had our share of "accolades" by technology-focused news media. Our fondest have always come from the people we work with. One of our favorites is Washington Bud Company, a family-owned cannabis producer in Arlington, WA. Co-owner Shawn DaNae Wagonseller says her company “has relied on OpenTHC since our beginning to provide workable integration solutions to the ever shifting traceability system.”

Our partnership began when Shawn accounted for the cost of traceability on her business. She was losing hundreds dollars a month using BioTrack. At the time, this was Washington State's traceability vendor. In the course of 10 years, Washington State would go on to replace that legacy system, twice.

BioTrack has a lot of problems. Chief among them, the slow interface and 15-minute activity window cost her a lot of time. Whether we value this time in 2014 or 2025 money, it amounts to several hundred dollars every month. Since switching, Wagonseller reflects that OpenTHC's crew are “always responsive to our needs, answers the phone right away and comes up with solutions to ease our traceability burdens.”
